England and New Zealand played one of the most memorable cricket matches ever when they met in the final of World Cup 2019 at Lord's on Sunday.
England were crowned the new world champions after they piped New Zealand in a Super Over that also ended in a tie. England were bowled out for 241 in their chase of 242. The match was to be decided by a Super Over -- for the first time in the history of ODI cricket.
England batted first and with Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler hitting a boundary each, they made 15 runs. In reply, New Zealand finished with 15 as well after Martin Guptill was run out in the final ball of the Super Over.
However, England were declared winners and eventually the World Cup 2019 champions as they had scored more boundaries than New Zealand in the final. Notably, the number of boundaries scored in the match was used as tie-breaker for the tied Super Over.
